The Tealeaf Acoustic Event Composer makes it easier for you to start creating events to track user behavior. You can monitor specific actions or behaviors like page views, clicks, etc.

Install Acoustic Event Composer

1. Go to Google Chrome and login to your Google account.
2. Go to Chrome Web Store.
3. Search Acoustic Event Composer and select Add to Chrome
4. Select Add extension

Activate Acoustic Event Composer

Note: You must have a subscription to a Tealeaf org and an Acoustic ID created to start using the Event Composer extension.

1. Go to your website within a Google Chrome browser.
2. Select the puzzle icon in the top right corner by the search bar.
3. Select the pin button for easy access to extension (optional).
4. Select Acoustic Event Composer extension
5. Enter Acoustic ID and password. Then, select Login. 
6. Choose one of your subscriptions and select Continue.
7. Click the toggle switch to activate Acoustic Event Composer and reveal the side panel.

Understand the Element details

When you create events, you can define your events by setting conditions that will help you gain specific insights into your customers' experiences during their sessions in your application. When the conditions of the event are met during a visitor session, data about the event is captured.

 

The following Element detail settings help you define your events.

 

Interaction type: how the user (or application) acts upon the element

• Click 
  Example: clicking of a button
• Change (input, value or property) 
  Example: setting or changing the value of a form field
• Text 
  Example: the appearance of text within the application
• Load 
  Example: the loading of a page within the application

Element type: the element you would like to track

• Button
• Link
• Data field
• Image
• Text (appearing within the application)
• Page (loading of the page)

Tracking frequency: how often the interaction is to be tracked

• Every occurrence
• Only the first

Scope: the areas where the element is to be tracked

• Just this page on this website
• All pages on this website

Identifier: how the element is found

• Use the right-side element panel to decide how it should be identified

Tip: Identifiers can help you identify elements on a web page more precisely. Adjust the identifier rules by selecting specific operators. You can also use the Element Location section on the Right panel to edit the selected identifiers.

Create events

1. Select Events in the side panel.
2. Select New event
3. Select an interaction type in the dropdown menu. 
4. Use the Element selector to select a component within the website.
5. Confirm basic information. 
   1. Name (required) 
   2. Tags and description (optional) 
6. Confirm element details.
7. Select Save. 

Set Core behaviors

You can also set Core behaviors to capture key steps that are required to achieve your goals. For example, setting behaviors to capture actions related to adding an item to the cart. You can select the templates provided by Acoustic to start setting the Core behaviors. The following templates are currently available in the extension:

• Add to cart
• Order

Tip: You can also add an existing event definition to set your core behaviors.

 

1. Select Core behaviors in the side panel. 
2. Select a core behavior template from the dropdown menu. 
3. Use the Element selector or existing event definitions to answer the core behavior questions. When the element selector is used, the element details will need to be confirmed similar to creating an event.
4. Select Save.

Manage events

The events you created using the extension are saved to the Event Manager. To review the events: 

1. Login to Tealeaf 
2. Go to Event Manager > Event 

The events can be edited or deleted through Acoustic Event Composer. To manage events in the extension: 

1. Activate the extension.
2. Go to the events panel.
3. Search for an event in the overflow menu. You can filter the list of events based on name, event type, tags, and date modified by selecting the filter icon.
4. Edit or delete by selecting the three dot icon or the event name.
