Automated emails can be sent using groups of automated messages or programs, depending on your goals and how you'd like your message to be delivered.
Automated message setup
- Go to Automation > Automated message groups in the Campaign menu.
- On the View groups of automated messages page, click Create button.
- Type in a name to your group and add notes (optional).
- Add a contact source by clicking the Select button and choosing a database, contact list or query from the modal. Click Select to confirm.
- In the Event trigger section, select Recurring mailings.
- Add Completion date (optional) and Tracking level from one of the following options:
- Unique
- Aggregate
- Open only
- Not tracking
- Click Save & activate or Save draft if you want to edit the automated message group later. You will be taken to an Active or Drafts tab on the View groups of automated messages page.
Note: After you click Save & activate, it will not be possible to edit the automated message group in the future.
- Go to Email > Email campaigns in the Campaign menu and click the New email button to create the message you want to assign to the group or click one of the existing messages. Note: Make sure the email campaign uses the same contact source as your automated message group.
- After you are done with editing your email, click the Automate button.
- Check Assign email to existing group of automated messages: and choose your automated message group from the dropdown menu. From available options in Schedule mailing to start section, choose Monthly by date or Monthly by day of week and add the dates as you need.
- Click Submit.
Since you assign an email to a group, groups can be re-used for other emails as well.
- Once you assign your email to the automated message group, you can edit the schedule.
- Content of the email would need to be managed or use dynamic content.
- Check if there is a different trigger for new vs existing contacts.
Programs setup
- Go to Automation > Programs in the Campaign menu.
- On the View programs page, click the Create new program button and choose a program template. Alternatively, go to a program you have already created.
- If you want the first email to go out as soon as the contact enters the list, leave the wait time at zero for your initial email. You can set the wait time for the first step up to 1 month. In such a case, the email will not go out until 1 month after the database change trigger, e.g. opt-in.
- To qualify existing contacts that have already received the first email, drag a Decision point action to the canvas and add after the first email. Set the next email on track 2 with a monthly interval or allow contacts to repeat the program every 30 days.
- On the programs canvas page, click Settings.
- Select the contact source, click Add contacts if the following events occur: and pick a database change occurs, like opt-in, or a custom web tracking event, e.g. submitting a web form.
- Check and edit all other settings and click Save and edit flow when you are ready.
- Click Activate.
'Monthly by day of week' email
In programs, you may also schedule a 'Monthly by day of week' email. It is a span of the numbered days of the week (like 1-7), not a span of weekdays (like Sunday through Saturday).
