An update profile action allows you to make changes to contact profile data records based on rules when they reach a specific point in the program. This action is available in both the programs canvas and the classic programs interface.

You can connect update profile actions to the audience, before or after steps, to decisions and percent split paths, or to other update profile actions. Program level placement is not yet available. Update profile placed before the first step in a program with an event-triggered entry prevents an autoresponder-style entry.

Unconfigured update profile objects display on the canvas with a grey dotted outline. When configured, the object turns blue.

Select the current rolling day option for the date type fields in programs. Type [today] in the new value field to have the current date placed in the record within classic programs.

In classic programs, track actions fire when a recipient enters the track, not when they complete it. If your track has an execution delay, the [today] value generated and stored in the database may not correspond to the day the recipient actually completed the track. To correct an execution delay on a track, either place the update profile action on the last step resource within the track or route all the recipients to another track with the sole purpose of updating profile data.

Note: You can add a dynamic date to an update profile action.

You can use the [today] element in a date field of an update profile data action to insert today's date when a qualifying contact reaches that step. Edit the update profile data and select the check box next to the field you want to update. In this case, Date entered program. Then, enter the new value [today] for that field on the right and click Apply.

Note: The use of the [today] element in a date field of an update profile action works only on date fields.
