You can use opt-out and suppression settings to configure opt-out handling, suppressed contacts, and your master suppression list.
Acoustic Campaign sets up a master suppression list for your organization. All of the opt-out and suppression settings for your organization are pre-configured. However, your organization can edit the pre-configured settings.
These pre-configured settings are not available to everyone and must be enabled by an Acoustic Campaign administrator. Contact Client Support for more information.
To see the settings, go to Settings > Administration > Organization Settings > Opt Out/Suppression Settings.
The following list describes the pre-configured settings that are in effect when your organization is created.
Field | Description |
Enable Organization Suppression List | Enables the organization-level suppression list. You must have an enabled organization-level suppression list, except in rare cases. For more information, see the Suppression List topic. |
Organization Suppression List | The name of the organization-level suppression list. |
Organization Suppression Opt Out Handling | Determines whether all opt-outs are added to the organization-level suppression list. |
All forwards to be sent to suppressed contacts | Determines whether messages are allowed to be forwarded to suppressed contacts. If the Allow forwards to be sent to suppressed contacts feature is turned on, it allows someone to forward an email to another party who had opted-out previously and is on the suppression list. This is something that most organizations do not use, because ISP providers do not consider this action to be someone forwarding an email to another party, but as a spam attempt that could cause an IP to be blacklisted. |
Opt-out Link Required to Send | Acoustic Campaign provides this feature to ensure compliance with CAN-SPAM regulations. If this option is selected and the opt-out link is missing, an error displays informing the user that an opt-out link is required to send the email. |
Custom Opt Out URLs | If your organization uses custom opt-out links, enter the URL of the opt-out form. You can add one of your custom opt-out links to an email on the Send email Draft Delivery Options page. |
Require an opt-out link
To require a user to use an opt-out link in every email sent, an organization administrator can take the following steps.
- Go to Suppression Settings.
- Select an option.
- If you select Opt Out Link Required To Send, at send time a user receives an opt-out error that prevents the email from sending.
- When Opt Out Link Required To Send is not selected, a user might receive a warning at send time, but the email can be sent without an opt-out link.
Enable a custom opt-out URL
To handle your own opt-outs, organization administrators can enter a custom opt-out URL by taking these steps.
- Go to Settings > Administration > Organization Settings > Opt-Out / Suppression
- Click Edit.
- In Opt Out Settings, click Add to name and enter a custom opt-out URL.
- Click Save.
You can still use your master suppression list if it is enabled. If you use an Acoustic Campaign Opt-Out link, op-outs are added to the master suppression list. However, if you use a custom opt-out link, no opt-outs are added to the master suppression list. Reports provide the list of opt-outs and it is up to your organization to handle the opt-outs.
