Endpoint providers work with Acoustic Exchange to provision and approve their business solution as available for registration as an Acoustic Exchange endpoint.
The collaboration between Acoustic Exchange and the endpoint provider includes evaluation and approval of the solution as an Acoustic Exchange endpoint by Acoustic Exchange and various advance preparations by the provider.
To simplify endpoint registration and maintenance, some endpoint providers collaborate in advance with Acoustic Exchange to complete much of the required endpoint registration and configuration work. These endpoints appear as available endpoints in the endpoint registration wizard. However, to register an endpoint for a solution that has not yet completed advanced planning with Acoustic Exchange, you can register the endpoint as a custom endpoint.
When you request that Acoustic Exchange register a business solution or application as an Acoustic Exchange endpoint, the endpoint provider exchanges information with Acoustic Exchange through application programming interfaces (API). Secure API calls between the endpoint provider and Acoustic Exchange exchange information that is required to make the endpoint available to your user account. The information always includes the authentication key that is generated in response to your registration request.
Acoustic Exchange accepts the authentication key as permission from you that the endpoint provider can interact with Acoustic Exchange on your behalf. In turn, the endpoint provider requires credentials from you as permission that Acoustic Exchange can interact with the endpoint on your behalf. During the registration process, you must provide the user credentials that the endpoint provider requires.
The API calls also include information to describe the endpoint, indicate whether the endpoint provides or receives data, and indicate whether the data represents events or audiences. Acoustic Exchange uses this information to display and describe the endpoint on the Endpoints tab in the UI.
The amount of time that is required to complete the endpoint registration, and the types of information that are required, depends on the endpoint provider. When you submit an endpoint registration request, the endpoint appears on the Endpoints tab as Pending. When the registration process is successfully completed, Acoustic Exchange updates the status to Active.
