Emails and push notifications in the program can use the organization and message level throttling.
Configure email throttling
If you want to throttle emails, you need an organisation administrator to configure the setup.
- In Campaign, go to Settings > Administration > Organization settings.
- Select Mailing settings and click Edit to open the Update mailing settings page.
- Select the check box and enter the number of emails in the Maximum sends per hour box.
- Go to Emails > Drafts and publish the message for use in programs.
At the time of email configuration, the email captures the limit set and use that when you send. It is important to note how any Org level throttling affects a program that is set to send between certain hours:
- Contacts that are available to send within the programs valid send hours are passed over by the program to the send engine.
- Contacts who fall out side of the programs valid send hours are held back for when the time slot is available again.
Throttling is not applied until the send engine takes ownership of the email. However, if you have Org level throttling set to, for example, 6000 per hour and more than 6000 contacts are processed and passed to the send engine by the program, then some are throttled. In this case, it is possible for emails to leave the servers out side of the programs send hours.
Note: Send time optimization overrides throttle settings.
Configure mobile app messages throttling
When you want to throttle push notifications, you must use the settings when creating a mobile notification draft.
- Go to Add settings > Delivery options section of the push notification settings. In Delivery optimisation, click Throttling.
- Enter the number of notifications to be sent before throttling takes effect.
- Publish the push message for use in programs.
