Proactive alerts provide health-based alerts for the following Tealeaf components: Canister server, data services, and CX Passive Capture Application server. You can use TMS to configure proactive alerts for Canister servers, data services, and PCA servers.
- Parameter name for which the alert is generated
- Current value of the parameter
- Threshold value that is configured for the parameter
- Component name for which the parameter is configured
Keep the following points in mind when you configure proactive alerts:
- If a Tealeaf component is scheduled to be shut down for maintenance, disable proactive alerts for the component.
- If proactive alerts feature for a component is disabled for its maintenance, manually enable proactive alerts for the component after the component is up and running, and restart the TMS server.
- If Canister servers or CX PCA servers are added or removed, or if any threshold values have changed, manually change the configuration of proactive alerts for the component, and restart the TMS server.
You can enable or disable proactive alerts in the Proactive Alerts Configuration window. Once disabled, proactive alerts are not generated for any component even if you configured an alert condition for the component.
Complete the following steps to configure Canister servers, data services, and CX PCA servers to receive proactive alerts.
- On the TMS home page, go to the Worldview tab.
- Expand your master server and then expand the Tealeaf Management Server node.
- Click the Proactive Alerts Configuration MasterServerName link.
- Ensure that the Turn on Proactive Alerts check box is selected. If you want to turn off the Proactive Alerts feature, clear the Turn on Proactive Alerts check box.
Important: If you configured proactive alerts for any component, and if you clear the Turn on Proactive Alerts check box, proactive alerts are not generated for any component.
- In the Global PA Rules area, click Edit. The PA Global Edit window opens. Refer to the following table to add information for email alerts:
Table 1. Information about the fields in the PA Global Edit window This is a two-columned table, where the first column lists the field name in the PA Global Edit window, and the second column describes the field.
In the following field Enter the following information SMTP Server SMTP server name SMTP Port SMTP port Email from The name that appears as the sender of proactive alerts Email to The email address of the recipient of proactive alerts You can add multiple recipients by using a comma to separate the addresses.
Snooze Add the time (in minutes) for a pause between two consecutive proactive alerts. The snooze time that you configure is applicable for all components. - Complete the tasks in the following table to add a Canister server, data service, or PCA server for configuring proactive alerts:
Table 2. Adding a Canister, data service, or PCA This is a two-columned table with the name of the component for configuring proactive alerts in one column, and the steps to add the component for proactive alerts in the second column.
To add... Complete these tasks in the Proactive Alerts Configuration window... Canister - In the Canister Server Rules area, click Add Canister.
- In the Canister Servers list, select a Canister.

Copying proactive expressions from one server to another
You can use TMS to copy proactive expressions from one server to another.
Use the following procedure to copy proactive expressions from one server to another.
- In TMS, from the WorldView page, expand the twistie for Tealeaf Management Server.
- Select Proactive Alerts Configuration.
- Select Copy Expressions and make your selections from the dialog.
- From the Copy From field, select the sever you are copying the expression from.
- From the Expressions list, select the proactive expressions to copy.
- From the Copy To field, select the server that you want to copy the proactive expression to.
- Click OK to copy the selected expression to the server.
If the server you are copying the expression to is configured for Proactive alerts, the copied expression overwrites the existing expression on that server.
If server is not configured for Proactive alerts, then the server is added to Proactive alert configuration when you copy over the expression.
Suppressing proactive alerts from triggering
You can impose a blackout for Proactive alerts. A blackout is a user-defined period of time, during which the Proactive alert is prevented from triggering.
You can use blackouts to avoid generating skewed alert values that might be generated because of system backups, restarts, and other activities.
Use the following procedure to configure a blackout for a Proactive alert.
- In TMS, from the WorldView page, expand the twistie for Tealeaf Management Server.
- Select Proactive Alerts Configuration .
- Select View/Edit
- From the Proactive Alerts Configuration dialog, you can set the blackout interval:
- Click Configure Canister and select Blackouts.
- Click Configure Data Service and select Blackouts.
- Click Configure Data Collector and select Blackouts.
- To configure a common blackout for multiple days, in the Edit Alert window, select the days and click the Enable Common Blackout check box.
