The Reference session agent can be used for these activities:

• User-agent detection - The Reference session agent can detect the type of user agent, browser, and operating system in use by your visitors.
• Referrer parsing and prepending - The Reference session agent can be configured to normalize referrer values into name-value pairs for easier analysis and can prepend these values with a configured string to eliminate potential conflicts with other URL values.
• Client-side capture references - The UI Capture capability can be deployed to capture client-side events and other data, including reference values. These values are detected by the Reference session agent.

For some deployments of the Processing Server, this session agent is included in the default pipeline and is required.
