Preview SMS message drafts
The SMS preview page displays the message draft as it is expected to look after sending it. You can preview SMS message drafts to ensure the message will look exactly how you expect it to look.
- After drafting an SMS message on the Set up your SMS page, select a contact source and a text to join program, and then click Preview.
- You can specify a mobile number so that the preview can include personalized text for a specific contact in the preview pane.
- If a mobile number is associated with multiple recipient IDs, select a recipient ID to see the personalized text for a particular recipient.
- Select the Highlight personalized text checkbox to identify the personalized text included in the message draft.
Note: The preview may vary as per the screen size and the resolution of the device. It can also change for different operating systems. The actual message also may get truncated in some cases if the personalized text increases the character count beyond the acceptable limit.
Filter SMS drafts
Use Filter to view drafts that are associated with up to 10 selected Text to Join programs. Selected programs must use the same short code, long code, or Sender ID.
Duplicate an SMS draft
After you send a message draft, the draft no longer appears on the Select SMS Draft page. If you want to keep a copy of the draft, before you send the draft you must duplicate an existing draft and save it as a template for future messages.
Click the draft name to select it and then click Duplicate. The duplicate copy of the SMS draft appears with the same Scheduled time/date as the original SMS.
Personalized text while previewing a draft
Personalized text does not display if the value for a field that is used in the message draft is missing in the database. If there is a default value for that field, that default value is used for generating personalized text.
You may not be able to see any personalized text in spite of selecting the Highlight personalized text checkbox, if the server is down. In that case, wait for some time, and try again.
Mobile number and recipient ID
If your database is configured to allow a mobile number to be associated with multiple contacts, a mobile number can be associated with multiple recipient IDs. You need to specify a recipient ID for the correct personalized text to display in the draft preview.
If a mobile number is associated only with one recipient ID, you do not need to specify the recipient ID.
You can find the recipient ID of a contact from the summary page of a contact.
Acceptable format for mobile numbers while previewing SMS message drafts
The mobile number must be in E.164 format.
Enter the mobile number with country code on the SMS preview page without any special characters. Use only up to 15 numeric characters. For more information, look up E.164 format on the Internet.
Why the preview page does not warn about the SMS character limit
The sample data you used in preview probably kept the draft in the specified character limit. However, for some recipients, personalized text may increase the character count beyond the permissible limit.
A warning cannot be shown for such cases. To avoid such cases, you can use a recipient ID with more characters in field values as the sample data for your preview.
