Acoustic Campaign automatically appends certain identifiers to any URLs contained in email messages matching a qualified domain.
For example, a URL may appear as:
https://www.domain.com/?spMailingID=1234567890&spUserID={encoded-value}&spJobID=1234567890&spReportId={encoded-value}
These identifiers include:
- spMailingID identifies the mailing (or email) associated with the email link.
- spUserID identifies the unique Acoustic contact record/recipient of the email.
- spReportId identifies the report associated with the email. For example, certain emails, such as programs or autoresponders, may result in multiple message deliveries (such as daily messages), so a unique spReportId may be created to enable reporting for each day of the email.
- spJobID used for bounce, or retry, emails, but often matches the spReportId.
These identifiers are used in conjunction with Campaign web tracking so that it is possible to report on click-through email traffic to the qualified domain.
Privacy best practices
In addition to the default parameters that are automatically appended for qualified domains, Campaign customers may append additional parameters, including parameters based on custom field values, to URLs included in an email. In keeping with the privacy and data security best practices, Acoustic recommends that Campaign customers avoid including consumer PII data within URLs. Instead, unique identifiers may be included in URLs and used to load contact data from a back-end database.
