Set frequency limits on a mobile app step in the programs canvas to control the number of times a contact receives the mobile app message.
Frequency limits prevent sending contacts the same message content repeatedly if they engage with the trigger more than once.
Marketers who want to use programs with location-based events and mobile app messaging are encouraged to create a single step program with 0 waits, an exit and the repeat setting enabled. During the step configuration, you can set frequency limits for the mobile app message interaction that overrides the app-level frequency settings.
Before you begin
Make sure that you have completed the following tasks before setting up frequency limits for your message content:
- Configured app frequency settings
- Published your message content
- If using Device Location Awareness events, set up locations (optional)
Set frequency limits on a mobile app step
- Go to Automation > Programs > Create.
- Select the Autoresponder template and click Create.
- Click Settings to open the Edit program settings page.
- Click Select contact source and choose a database or query.
- Select Add contacts when the following events occur:. Click Add behavior > Universal behavior and choose a Location or Mobile app event.
- Click Configure to set up the entrance criteria and attributes for the location universal behavior event.
- Select Save and edit flow to return to the program canvas.
- Click Configure on the Step. Select the Mobile app message interaction and click Configure.
- Choose your message content.
- Select the Frequency limits tab to set up the frequency limits for the step.
- App key frequency limits cannot be modified in a program. Step level frequency limits override current app level frequency limits.
- Frequency limits are enforced with a rolling window and are checked at any given point in time. No start or end dates are involved. At the time of sending, the frequency limits are checked within the past 60 days, past month, past week, past 24 hours, past hour, and past minute period. Messages are not sent if limits are reached on any of the limit levels set because they are automatically removed/exited from the program. The contact is counted and shown on the Push > Metrics insight panel under Mobile app message contacts removed.
- Choose the desired frequency settings.
- Select Apply. Make modifications after frequency limits are applied by selecting the Change link on the configuration page.
If the contact reaches any of the program step frequency limits or app key frequency limits, the mobile app message they will be automatically removed from the program. A mobile frequency suppression universal behavior is then generated by the system.
