When deploying a deployment group, you typically follow this process:
- Deploy the deployment group to the test environment.
- Test the deployment and if you find any issues, fix the issues in the deployment group.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you are satisfied with the results.
- Deploy the group to production.
Note: Although deploying a group to production after testing is a best practice, testing is not a prerequisite for deployment to production.
It is important to understand the following points about deployments:
- Each deployment that you perform is a deployment version, and your environments reflect each deployment version as a whole. The Deployment groups window reflects the current state of the test and production environments.
- To delete deployed deployment groups, you must first remove them from deployment.
Deploy a group to test
You can deploy a deployment group to test, regardless if it's already deployed to production.
To deploy a group to test:
- Deploy a deployment group to test in one of these ways:
- Click Deploy > To test in the edit group window for the deployment group. This window opens immediately after you create a deployment group, and the Deploy button becomes available after you add tags to the deployment group.
- Click Deployment groups in the main navigation of Exchange Capture, find the group in the list, click the corresponding three-dot menu, and then select Deploy to test. To find a deployment group in the list:
- Browse the list of deployment groups. Deployment groups are listed in alphabetical order.
- Enter search criteria in the search field.
- Click the Filter icon, select filter criteria, and then click Apply. You can filter by group, category, test status (deploy, undeployed), and production status (deployed, undeployed). For example, to find groups that are not yet deployed to test, filter by a Test status: Undeployed.
- Set the order for deploying deployment groups by dragging each group's Move icon up and down in the list of groups that are being deployed. To see details about a group (test status, production status, and modification date), click the information icon.
- Click Deploy. The deployment groups are deployed to test by order of priority.
- Next, test the deployment by using the Test tool, and when you are satisfied with the group's configuration, you can deploy to production. For details, check out Test the deployment and Deploy a group to production.
Deploy a group to production
You can deploy a group to production at any time; however, a best practice is to deploy the group to test first and then when you are are satisfied with the group's configuration, deploy the group to production.
To deploy a group to production:

Note: You can click Deploy > To production in the edit group window immediately after adding tags to the group; however deploying to production without first testing the deployment is not recommended.
- Set preferences for the deployment:
- If you want email notifications to be sent when the group is deployed, select Send an email when the group is deployed and then provide a comma-separated list of email addresses of email recipients.
- If the group contains tags from deactivated partner enablements, you can activate the enablement and deploy the tags by selecting the enablement checkbox.
- Click Next.
- Set the order for deploying deployment groups by dragging each group's Move icon up and down in the list of groups that are being deployed. To see details about a group (test status, production status, and modification date), click the information icon.
- Click Submit. The deployment groups are deployed to production by order of priority.
