Use Search to generate a list of sessions that match specific criteria or visitor experiences that you want to analyze.
By querying the captured session data, you can locate sessions for further analysis or replay.
- Click Session Search from the navigation panel.
If the session search does not open to Search, click Search in the Search | Classic search switcher in the upper right corner of the user interface.
- Specify the search scope and criteria by setting values for Session status, App profile, and Session time.
- You can also place your cursor in the search field and select from the list of search categories that are displayed, or just start typing in the search input field and Search suggests a list of keyword matches.
- From the suggestions provided, make your selection.
- Search adds your selection to the search query.
- You can add another condition to your search by selecting from the list of categories. For example, you might select a SESSION ATTRIBUTE as a category. When you select a category, Search presents a list of values for the category that you selected.
- Select from the list of values presented. Your selection is added to the query.
- You can further qualify your search by inputting a name + colon in the search field. For example, you might type “platform:” in the search query field. Based on your input, the Search provides more suggestions.
- Make your selection and click the Search icon to run your search.
When you search for older sessions, a search can take longer to complete. The table displays results for each day as it is retrieved beginning with the most recent day of your search criteria. You can check the status of your search above the table on the left and you'll get a notification in the Activity list when the search is complete. Return to your search at any time by clicking Activity list and selecting your search.
Your subscription has a limit on active searches for each user. If you try to begin a session search after that limit is reached, you'll have to either wait for one of the active searches to finish, or pause an in-progress search to begin your search immediately.
Example 1: Search for IP address Search by entering a specific IP address directly into the Search field:
- From the Search, place your cursor in the search field and enter a specific IP address.
Search displays search condition suggestions for the IP address you entered.
The suggestions list the various elements (SESSION ATTRIBUTE, URL, COOKIE, URL FRAGMENT) that include the IP address.
- Select a condition from the list, or click the search icon.
If you click the search icon (without selecting from the list), Search creates the search condition from the first item on the list and adds it to the search results page automatically.
Search by selecting the Session Attribute
- From the Search, place your cursor in the search field.
A list of condition types that you can search on is presented.
- Select the Session Attribute.
A list of Session Attributes with their values is presented.
- In the Search field, to the right of Session attribute, enter IP a.
Search displays the IP address session attribute.
- Select the IP address.
- In the Search field, to the right of IP address, enter the value of the IP address.
- Click the Search icon.
Search creates the search condition based on your input and adds it to the search results page automatically.
Search for Session Attributes
- From the Search, place your cursor in the search field.
A list of condition type that you can search on is presented.
- Select Session Attribute.
A list of Session Attributes with their values is presented.
- In the Search field, enter the value / name of the Session Attribute.
For example, if you wanted to include the Session Attribute iOS in your search, enter iOS in the Search field.
Search lists the value name parings for Session Attributes that include IP address. For example:- Session attribute: Platform: iOS (App)
- Session attribute: Operation system: iOS
- Session attribute: SDK type: iOS
- Select the Session Attribute that you want to include in your search.
Your selection is added as Search Condition.
Set the search criteria (Session status, App profile, and Session time.
You can:- Add more search conditions
- Run your search by clicking the magnifying glass icon.
A list of sessions matching the conditions are returned.
From the session list page, you can click Search conditions to display the condition for your search. You can edit the condition and rerun the search.
Find condition types
With Search, you can find the condition types for your search, even if you know the thing you are searching for only.
- From the Search interface, place your cursor in the search field and type a word. For example, enter the word hit.
Search returns a categorized list of condition types (Session Attributes, Events, URL, Cookies, Dimensions) that include the word hit.
- Select condition type that makes sense for your search.
Your selection is added as Search Condition.
You can:- Add more search conditions
- Run your search by clicking the magnifying glass icon.
- Select the Session Attribute that you want to include in your search.
Your selection is added as Search Condition.
Set the search criteria (Session status, App profile, and Session time.
A list of sessions matching the conditions are returned.
From the session list page, you can click Search conditions to display the condition for your search. You can edit the condition and re-run the search.
Use a partial name and partial value
With Search, you can find the condition types even if you only know the partial name and value of the object you are searching for.
In standard session search, if you were searching sessions for a Session Attribute, you need to provide the value/name pair. For example:

With Search you can enter fragments for the name and value, separated by a colon (:) and the search returns a categorized list of condition types that contain the fragment.
Share your search with other users or user groups in your organization
- Click Session Search from the navigation panel.
If search opens to Classic search, click Search in the Search | Classic search switcher.
- Run your search.
- From the search results page, click the Share icon and select Search results.
- Enter a name for the search result that you are sharing.
- Choose how you want to share the search result.
- To share the search results with a user group:
- Enter a name for the search result you are sharing.
- Select the Users & groups radio button.
- From the left-side panel, select User Groups.
- Select the checkbox for the user groups with whom you want to share the search results.
- Click Share.
- To share the search results with individual users:
- Enter a name for the search result you are sharing.
- Select the Users & groups radio button.
- From the left-side panel, select Users.
- Select the checkbox for the users with whom you want to share the search results.
- Click Share.
- To share the search results publicly, with all users in your organization
- Enter a name for the search result you are sharing.
- Select the Public radio button.
- Click Share.
- To share the search results with a user group:
The users or user groups with whom you shared the search results can access the results it by clicking the hamburger menu to the right of the Search field and clicking Search results.
Users with whom the search results are shared can:
- Replay sessions from the shared search results page
- Download sessions from the shared search results page
- Save sessions from the shared search results page to the Event Tester.
Save your search condition as a template
- Click Session Search from the navigation panel.
If search opens to Classic search, click Search in the Search | Classic search switcher in the upper right corner of the user interface.
- From Search, create your search conditions and run the search.
- From the search results page, click Save > Save as and enter the name of the search.
- Click Save.
The search condition is saved as a template.
If you modify the search condition and save it, the modifications are applied to the template automatically.
Access the saved search by clicking the hamburger menu to the right of the Search field and selecting My search templates.
You can expand the saved search to view the details by clicking twistie (>) to the left of the search name.
You can view the details of all your saved searches by clicking Expand all.
Click a template name to open the search. Once the search is open, you can run it, modify the conditions, or share the search with other users by clicking the Share icon.
Share your saved search conditions
- Click Session Search from the navigation panel.
If search opens to Classic search, click Search in the Search | Classic search switcher.
- Enter the condition that you want to share in Search field.
- Click the Share icon to the right of the Search conditions and the Save icon, and select Search template.
- Choose how you want to share the template.
- Click the Users Groups radio button to share the search condition with specific users or user groups and select the users or user groups with whom to share the search condition.
- Click the Public radio button to share the search result with all users in your organization.
- Click Share.
The individual users or user groups with whom you shared the template can access it by clicking the hamburger menu to the right of the Search field and clicking Shared with Me.

Known issue: The count displayed on the pop-up, on hover over the search report, is not equal to the number displayed in session list header. This behavior is expected.
