A dimension group is a set of dimensions that can be displayed in the same report. A dimension must be included in at least one dimension group.
- A dimension group can contain up to five dimensions
- A dimension group can be thought of as a parent of the dimensions
- An event can be associated with one or more dimension groups.
Create dimension groups
Before you create a dimension group, you must know the name of the dimensions that you want to include in your dimension group.

- In the Event manager, select New.
- Select Dimension group.
- Enter the dimension group name.
- Click + Add tags to associated tags with this dimension group. Select or enter tag names.
- Enter a description.
- Click + Dimensions to add dimensions to the group.
- Select the dimensions and click Select.
- Click Save.
For example, you can create a dimension group called user agent properties. User agent properties dimension group is made of these dimensions:
- User agent name
- Screen width
- Screen height
- JavaScript support
In this example, the inclusion of the User agent name dimension is useful for combining dimensions into new events.
Update a dimension group
- In the Event manager, click Dimension Group.
- Select the Dimension Group to edit.
- Click Edit.
- Update any of the dimension group fields.
- Click Save.
Delete a dimension group
Only administrators can delete dimension groups. When you delete a dimension group, other items are affected, including:
- Dimension groups that are not used by reports or alerts are removed from the events.
- Standard reports that use the dimension group as a breakout are deleted.
- Funnel or Geo report segments that use the dimension group are deleted.
- Alerts that use the dimension group are deleted.
- Overstat® auto-generated dimension groups and their associations with Overstay events are deleted.
When you delete a dimension group, items that use that dimension group are also deleted. Before you confirm that you want to delete a dimension group, you are shown a list of the items that will be deleted along with the dimension group. If there is an item in the hierarchy that you do not want to delete, click Cancel. Then, disassociate the item from the dimension group and delete the dimension group.
- Select Event manager.
- Select Dimension Group.
- Select the Dimension Group to delete.
- Click Delete.
A warning message is displayed.
- Verify that everything in the hierarchy can be deleted and click Delete.
Adding dimension groups to system-provided events
- In the Event manager, click Events
- Select the event to edit.
- Click Edit.
- Update the dimension groups to include the dimension group that you created.
- Click Save.
