Simple events are events with only a few parameters and conditions that business users can create from within Session replay.
Using Simple Event Capture in Session replay, business users can bypass the Event Manager to create basic Events in a visual “code-free” environment.
Simple Event Capture is not available for native or mobile web sessions.
Create a simple event
You can create Simple Events from within Session replay by using Simple Event Capture. Simple Event Capture is not available for native sessions.
Simple Events are created from within Session Replay. Use Session Search to find sessions that contain the conditions from which to create your Simple Event.
From the Session list, click the Replay session icon of the session that you want to use to create the Simple Event.
Note: The session opens in the Preferred Session View, as set in the Replay Settings. You must be in the Replay view to create Simple Events.
With Simple Event Capture you can bypass the Event Manager to create Events in a visual “code-free” environment. Simple event capture records the steps and creates the Event for you.
- From the Replay view of the session, select the Create event from this Session icon in the upper right corner of the interface.
Clicking the Create event from this Session icon opens the Simple event capture interface in the right-side panel.
The Create event from this Session icon remains in a selected state while you capture the interactions that define your Event.
- Click Start recording to record your interaction with the session.
The first line in the Simple event capture interface shows the root “screen name” of the session.
When in recording mode, the session becomes interactive, so the selections that you make from the navigation pane and from within the session itself, are recorded by Simple event capture
- In the navigation pane, find the step that you want Simple event capture to record and select it.
The page opens in Replay and the step is added to the Simple event capture interface.
- In the view area of Replay, find the UI element for which to capture a visitor's interaction and select it.
For example, if you want to create a Simple Event that fires when a user clicks the Add to cart button, find the Add to cart element in the page and click it.
The "Click Add to Cart Event" is recorded and added to the Simple event capture interface. - Optional: Select the check box for Match any content.
The Match any content checkbox displays for data input fields only.
If you check the Match any content check box, the Input field is disabled and the Simple Event fires regardless of the value in the Input.
If you clear the Match any content check box, the Input field is activated, and the Simple Event fires only if the value specified in the Input field matches the value in the raw data.
- Optional: To delete captured items from the Simple event capture interface, select the delete icon.
- Optional: To clear all items from the Simple event capture interface, select Clear.
- Click Create to configure the captured Event. Use the Create event modal to:
- Enter a name for the Simple Event
- Add tags to the Simple Event
The Simple Event tag is added by the system automatically and cannot be deleted.
- Add a description for the Simple Event
- Add dimensions to the Simple Event.
- Optional: Click Save and test to open the Simple Event in the Event tester.
- Click Save to save the Simple Event to the Event Manager.
The record function remains enabled, allowing you to create more Simple Events.
Edit a simple event
You can edit Simple Events from within Session replay or in the Event Manager.
When you save a Simple Event from within Session replay, the Event is saved to the Event Manager.
- From the Event Manager, find the Simple Event that you want to edit.
You can search on the tag "Simple" to get a list of the Simple Events.
- From the search results, select the event that you want to edit.
The event information is displayed in the main window.
There are two ways to edit a Simple Event:- Edit in Session Replay
- Edit in the Event Manager
The decision on whether to edit the Simple Event in the Event Manager or in Session Replay depends on the criteria or conditions that you are adding to the Event. The Event Manager provides a more flexible environment for editing Events. But in Session Replay, you can add criteria based on elements that you see and interact with
- To edit the Event in Session Replay:
- Click Edit > Edit in Session Replay. The Edit in Session Replay window is displayed. From the window you can:
- Add search conditions to find other sessions like the one used to create the Simple Event.
- If present, select the session that was used to create the Simple Event originally.
- Select a session other than session that was used to create the Simple Event originally.
- Once you choose the session, click Select.
The session opens in Session Replay, with the Simple Event Capture feature enabled.
If you are editing the Simple Event from the original session, you can:- Edit the values for steps
- Add new steps
- Delete existing steps
- You cannot edit values for steps that are not included in the current session, but you can remove the step.
- You can edit values for steps that are included in the current session.
- Optional: Change the session from which you are editing the Simple Event. To select a different session from which to edit the Simple Event, click Select Session from the Home > Event Manager > Select Session > Replay breadcrumb.
Select a session from the list of sessions.
- When you are done with your changes, click the Edit button.
The Edit event window is displayed.
The dimensions from the original Event cannot be deleted, but you can create new dimensions.
- Click Save.
The updated Simple Event is saved to the Event Manager.
You can open the modified Event in the Event Manager to review your changes.
- Click Edit > Edit in Session Replay. The Edit in Session Replay window is displayed. From the window you can:
- To Edit the Event in the Event Manager, click Edit > Edit in Event manager.
- To edit disabled values, click Convert.
Once you convert the Simple Event to a Regular event, you can edit the values in the Simple Event. Simple Events that are converted to Regular Events cannot be edited in Session Replay.
- Edit the values.
- Save your changes.
- To edit disabled values, click Convert.
Results
The updated and converted Event is saved to the Event Manager.
You can open the modified Event in the Event Manager to review your changes.
